Charges filed after 18-year-old is shot in New Brighton

In New Brighton, Minnesota, an 18-year-old man fell victim to a shooting incident on Thursday in the northern Twin Cities suburb, as confirmed by authorities. Following the incident, Jonathan Angeles-Sanchez, 24, a resident of New Brighton, has been charged by the Ramsey County Attorney’s Office with felony second-degree assault.

The occurrence took place on the 200 block of Old Highway 8 Northwest, according to the city’s Department of Public Safety. According to the statement of probable cause, a witness observed a man wearing a blue hoodie approaching the victim from behind, followed by the sound of a gunshot. Authorities believe that Angeles-Sanchez was the individual in the blue hoodie who carried out the shooting.

The victim, who sustained a gunshot wound to the back, was promptly transported to Hennepin Healthcare. However, his current condition remains undisclosed.

In response to the incident, Old Highway 8 was temporarily closed between County Road E and Eighth Avenue Northwest to facilitate the investigation by authorities.
