Middle school students from Maplewood evacuated to CHS following gas leak

Following a gas leak incident at Dunnell Road and Baker Street on Thursday, March 21, approximately at 10:30 a.m., caused by construction work conducted by a PSE&G contractor, Maplewood Middle School students were initially moved to the Maplewood Country Club and subsequently to Columbia High School, as per township authorities.

Confirming the relocation, South Orange-Maplewood School District spokesperson Paul Brubaker stated, “All Maplewood Middle School students and staff have been relocated to Columbia High School due to a nearby gas leak outside of the middle school. Students and staff are safe. Students will be dismissed from CHS this afternoon. Families have been informed. Acting Superintendent Gilbert will release more details later.”
