Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands Announced to Have Crossplay at Launch

Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, a new offshoot in the famous Borderlands franchise, will be released on March 25th for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, with crossplay compatibility for all platforms – including PlayStation.

Sony has a reputation for being anti-crossplay, first rejecting crossplay functionality in popular multiplayer titles like Fortnite and Rocket League. Borderlands 3’s crossplay update, which arrived in June 2021, did not contain PlayStation support, despite the fact that the studio subsequently allowed it for those two titles.

However, when Gearbox CEO and president Randy Pitchford unveiled Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands’ crossplay compatibility in a tweet on Sunday (via Kotaku), he expressly mentioned Sony for “working together on this.” Because co-op multiplayer is a big part of the game, adding support for Sony’s platforms means more people will be able to play together.

Pitchford has stated on Twitter that he hopes to see crossplay in Borderlands 3 at some time in the future. “For a long time [sic], BL3 has allowed crossplay,” he stated. “I believe that the eventual integration of PlayStation to BL3 crossplay is now unavoidable.” More information will be available as soon as we obtain it…” A request for comment from Sony was not immediately returned.
