Pokémon Scarlet and Violet Announced for Switch

Surprise! There will be many more Pokémon games released in the future. The Pokémon Company revealed two new titles at a livestreamed event on Sunday morning: Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

The games are set to release in late 2022 on the Nintendo Switch, and the quick teaser looked a lot like Pokémon Sword and Shield, which released in 2019. The games are characterized as a “open-world adventure” that “takes a new evolutionary step in the Pokémon main series,” according to creator Game Freak. In the photograph below, you can see a few of the newcomers.

The second significant announcement is that Pokémon Legends: Arceus, which was released earlier this year, would receive a “daybreak” software upgrade. It’ll be accessible for free later today, and it comes with a new investigation quest. The Pokémon Company also revealed that it will produce an animated series set in the game’s Hisui area, which will premiere later this year.

The announcement also included a major upgrade to Pokémon Go, with creatures from the Alola area — which originally featured in Pokémon Sun and Moon — arriving to the game on March 1st. In addition, Pokémon Unite, a competitive combat game, will gain several major new features, including new, more furious encounters called “fury battles,” which will debut today. Limited-edition Pokémon Day stuff will be given to players who check in now.
