Hold on to your jumpsuits: Netflix has confirmed that the immensely popular Squid Game series will return for a second season.
Ted Sarandos, Netflix’s co-CEO and chief content officer, announced the Korean miniseries’ comeback during the company’s fourth-quarter earnings conference on Thursday. Sarados claimed there’s more ghastly action to come when asked by Nidhi Gupta of Fidelity Management and Research if the audience will receive a second season of Netflix’s most successful series ever.
He said, “Absolutely.” “The Squid Game universe is only getting started.”
Hwang Dong-hyuk has previously stated that the series will return and that he was in the “planning process.” Sarandos did not say when the show will return or what an expanded Squid Game universe would entail.
However, if the series is given the full Stranger Things treatment, it may spread into gaming and other areas. (Netflix has made it clear that gaming is an important part of their future business strategy.) In the Netflix Shop, Squid Game already has its own apparel line and Funko Pop figurines. On Friday, a new Bape collaboration will be released.
Let the games begin.
