Developer Mediatonic (which is owned by Epic Games) revealed on Tuesday that Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout has considerably increased its crossplay capabilities across PlayStation and PC. You can now create cross-platform parties in “any of our appropriate playlists in Fall Guys—from Squads, to Duos, to Main Show and beyond,” Mediatonic stated in a blog post as part of the game’s season 6 mid-season update.
You must link your Epic Account to Fall Guys in order to party with your pals. If you haven’t already done so, Mediatonic promises that you will be requested to do so when you start the game.
The feature expands on the game’s previously restricted crossplay capability. To play with pals on multiple platforms, gamers had to create bespoke lobbies previously. You could play against players from other platforms via matching on Mediatonic, but you couldn’t join parties with them.
Crossplay is a key element in two of Epic’s other huge games, Fortnite and Rocket League, so it’s no surprise that Epic is making it easier to use in Fall Guys. While there’s an obvious advantage for consumers, linking players across platforms may be risky from a commercial standpoint: Sony was initially opposed to allowing the functionality in Rocket League and Fortnite, but it finally relented under player pressure.
It’s unknown whether Fall Guys’ planned Nintendo Switch and Xbox versions will also enable crossplay. However, considering Epic’s track record, there’s a chance we’ll see the functionality on those platforms. A request for comment from Mediatonic was not immediately returned.
