The couple’s office said Monday that Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, tested positive with COVID-19 four days after Prince Charles was found to be afflicted with the coronavirus.
Camilla was self-isolating, according to Clarence House. Since his positive test on Thursday, Charles has been isolating himself, while Camilla has continued to do public appearances despite having daily tests.
Charles, 73, and Camilla, 74, are both triple-vaccinated.
The coronavirus was previously infected by Charles, the British heir to the throne, in March 2020, during the first wave of the epidemic.
When both were at Windsor Castle early last week, Charles is thought to have visited with his mother, Queen Elizabeth II. Buckingham Palace hasn’t said if the 95-year-old queen has tested positive, despite the fact that she wasn’t showing any symptoms last week.
The queen, who celebrated her 70th year on the throne on Feb. 6, expressed her desire for Camilla to be acknowledged as Queen Consort when Charles becomes king.
Camilla, who married Charles in 2005 and was originally snubbed by followers of his late first wife, Princess Diana, received a big vote of confidence with the news.
Since then, the British public has warmed up to her down-to-earth demeanor and sense of humour. Camilla has worked with over 100 charities, encouraging reading, assisting victims of domestic abuse, and assisting the elderly.
