According to the company, an American Airlines aircraft to London was rerouted to Miami after a passenger failed to comply with the statutory requirement to wear a face mask.
The airline contacted Miami police, who removed a woman off the plane at Miami International Airport without incident on Wednesday evening. The passenger was handled with “administratively” by American Airlines, according to a representative for the Miami-Dade Police Department.
According to an airline official, the lady was placed on American’s internal no-fly list awaiting further inquiry. If passengers fail to obey stringent mask regulations required to limit the spread of COVID-19, airlines have regularly prevented them from flying for the length of the epidemic.
The plane had 129 passengers and 14 staff members, according to American Airlines. According to tracking firm FlightAware, the Boeing 777 was turned back less than an hour into the transatlantic journey.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration, airlines recorded over 6,000 cases involving rowdy passengers last year, with 151 in the first two weeks of this year. Passengers who refused to wear masks were involved in the majority of them.
