Which New Technologies Will Emerge in 2022?

With 2020 and 2021 being a somewhat slow year for almost every industry on the planet, due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, 2022 is shaping up to be one of the most impactful in history.

This is especially true for the technology world, that saw widespread chip shortages, and logistical issues, plague their ability to rollout new and emerging technologies to the world. Yet, with this mostly behind us now, we are set to see a slew of new and exciting releases.

Today we’ll be exploring all of the new and emerging technologies, as well as advancements to current technologies, that we can expect to see in 2022.

Expanded AI Capabilities

AI has already been expanded at an alarming rate over the past decade. However, with machine learning now sitting the breaking point of business application, we’re set to see a massive expansion of what AI will provide to our day to day lives.

We’ve already seen signs of this trend taking root in 2022. Except a flood of AI driven technology releases, applications, websites, and much more. In time, it will become impossible to truly tell the different between what is AI powered, and what a real human is operating, or creating.

Tokenless and Passwordless Authentication Technology

The way we think about passwords is about the change significantly in 2022. With companies such as Microsoft and Google already allowing users to use 2FA, as well as a password locker system to keep their passwords safe, as well as single-click login solutions, we’re about to see the next logical step in this technology.

All over the internet, we will see a gradual shift away from password, or token based login systems, moving towards a more biometric, or mobile authenticated solution instead.

This push is a big one, as user safety has become a core concern for technology companies all over the world. The technology created to solve the issues of brute force password hacks, or phishing assaults, will soon make these issues of the darker side of the internet a thing of the past.

Augmented Reality Fashion

More individuals will invest in their postings, especially on Instagram and other social media platforms, as AR technology develops and social media usage grows. Companies are now selling expensive items that can only be viewed in images, rather than spending thousands on the latest fashionable piece of apparel.

Overall, this technology will open the door for more people around the world to enjoy, try on, and have access to, high-end fashion brands and accessories. This push will also help the world’s struggle against issues such as climate change, or the fast fashion craze that is currently dominating the market.

5G Global Release

5G was meant to release to the world in 2019, but saw a series of delays for a variety of reasons, many of which connected to the Covid-19 pandemic. However, thankfully in 2022, we’re about beginning to see a global push to upgrade our internet capabilities to the 5G level.

This will mean lightning-fast internet, offering peak speeds of 20Gbps, which is absolutely insane, offered to the majority of people on the planet.

With a large amount of the digital content we consume online now providing 4K resolutions, as well as file sizes that can reach into the hundreds of gigabytes, it’s high time that we see an upgrade to the internet speeds we have access to.

More Sustainable Technology Devices

More sustainable, repairable, and durable technology has been something we’ve needed for a long time. Now, with climate change at the forefront of everyone’s mind, we’ll finally begin to see a much more robust approach to what companies choose to offer consumers, when it comes to the sustainability of their devices.

This includes phones that are repairable, PC parts that have decade long lifespans, and even appliances that come with guaranteed sustainable power consumption to ensure they don’t harm the environment over their lifespan.

Augmented Reality Online and Physical Shopping

Just a decade ago, online buying was a novel notion. It was previously unheard of to be able to have anything from food to clothes and electronics delivered to your house with the press of a button. However, there is one area where internet purchasing continues to fall short: managing expectations.

Vendors can now generate realistic 3D representations of things using augmented reality (AR), allowing potential purchasers to see the item as if they were holding it in their hands before making a purchase. This will not only provide you a more realistic sample of the goods you’re trying to buy, but it will also inspire individuals to buy items they weren’t sure about.

The Metaverse

Whilst the Metaverse is still a buzzword being thrown around in many corporate shareholder meetings, it is not out of the picture to expect a Metaverse of some form to be released in 2022.

With Facebook, now rebranded into Meta, promising to deliver a fully immersive Metaverse to us soon, experts believe we may see the beginning of this technology hit our hands in 2022, if only in beta form.

The Future of Technology in 2022 is an Exciting One!

With so many new and exciting frontiers of technology set to release in 2022, it’s hard to say how things will look as we step in 2023. We may very well be looking at shopping in a fully augmented reality world, whilst also perhaps working in a Metaverse for our 9 to 5 job.

Perhaps there will be technology that isn’t even on this list, and will burst into the world suddenly throughout 2022, changing how we live forever. If the last two years shows us anything, it’s that change can come suddenly, and unexpectedly.
