Trailer for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Finally Debuts

It’s time to return to Middle Earth: the first trailer for Amazon’s colossal prequel series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power debuted during Super Bowl LVI, offering fans their first glimpse at the impending prequel series.

After a constant stream of teases for the next series, which would be set hundreds of years before the events of The Hobbit or The Lord of the Rings in what Tolkien referred to as “The Second Age” of Middle Earth, the trailer was finally released (as opposed to his more popular books and their film adaptations, which take place during the Third Age.)

The Silmarilion, which spans thousands of years and records significant events in the history of Middle Earth including the fall of Nmenor, the emergence of Sauron, and — of course — the forging of the famous (and eponymous) rings of power, will be condensed in Amazon’s series.

The Rings of Power will also include a large ensemble cast, including characters from the Lord of the Rings franchise such as Elrond (Robert Aramayo), Galadriel (Morfydd Clark), and the human warrior Isildur (Morfydd Clark) (Maxim Baldry). Owain Arthur, Nazanin Boniadi, Ismael Cruz Córdova, Charles Edwards, Trystan Gravelle, Sir Lenny Henry, Ema Horvath, Markella Kavenagh, Joseph Mawle, Tyroe Muhafidin, Sophia Nomvete, Lloyd Owen, Megan Richards, Dylan Smith, Charlie Vickers, Leon Wadham, Benjamin Walker, Daniel Weyman, and Sara Zwangobani also star

Amazon is also pouring money into attempting to convert The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power into the next great fantasy hit: according to Vanity Fair, the firm paid $250 million on the adaptation’s rights alone, on top of the astronomical $462 million spent on the first season.

On September 2nd, the first season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will premiere on Amazon Prime Video.
