Woman’s killing was targeted attack, police say

Merseyside police have confirmed that the woman who was fatally shot inside her house was the subject of a deliberate assault.

On the early hours of Sunday, police discovered the woman’s death at the home in Moreton’s Meadowbrook Road. She was in her 50s.

Merseyside Police declared that it was keeping “any motivation” in mind.

A 79-year-old man who knew the victim was detained on suspicion of murder at the scene and later released while the case is being investigated.

Detectives stated that they were looking to follow the whereabouts of a dark-colored, maybe three-person vehicle observed in the vicinity at the time.

Later, a burned-out car was discovered nearby on Garden Hey Road, and police suspect it may be “one and the same.”

“This isn’t a random incident; as far as we know, it’s a targeted strike,” Det Ch Insp Sue Coombs said. “Of course, we’re leaving our mind open as to the reason of the attack.”

She continued by saying that the police could not yet determine if the incident occurred inside or outside the home.

In her appeal for information regarding the car and its passengers, Ms. Coombs pleaded for anybody who may have dashcam or CCTV evidence to come forward.
