Twin Cities Marathon to log 40th year with races this weekend

It has been referred to be “the most picturesque urban marathon” in the nation, and it is about to enter its 40th year.

Beginning at 8 a.m. on Sunday in downtown Minneapolis, the 2022 Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon sends runners to St. Paul’s State Capitol grounds.

This year, the fall race celebrates its 40th birthday and returns to its original capacity following the postponement of live events in 2020 due to the pandemic and the running of half-capacity fields in 2021. In the marathon and the 10-mile event, respectively, more over 9,000 and almost 11,000 runners are anticipated. Throughout 26,000 people will participate in activities over the course of the weekend.

Drivers should be informed that during the event, roadways including Summit Avenue in St. Paul, the vicinity of the State Capitol, and downtown Minneapolis may be closed.

The Twin Cities in Motion app is available for free download on Google Play and iTunes for anybody who wants to follow a participant.
