A 17-year-old adolescent has reportedly been charged in the death of a fellow youngster who was discovered last week close to a Palm Beach County hamlet, according to police.
According to NBC station WPTV-TV, the corpse of Emmanuel Castaneda, 17, also known as Manny to family and friends, was discovered in the grass next to a body of water in Loxahatchee last Wednesday.
A 17-year-old was detained by police and accused in the case with first-degree murder and armed carjacking.
State Attorney Dave Aronberg for Palm Beach County stated that his agency generally has discretion when deciding whether to prosecute the minor as an adult.
According to Aronberg, “the adult system is geared for punishment, but the juvenile system is meant for rehabilitation.” However, there are some offenses that are so dangerous and endanger the society that there is really no other option except to prosecute the child as an adult, such as crimes involving guns.
