Psychiatric Patient Charge Upgraded to Murder in Pembroke Pines

After a fellow inmate died, a resident of a Pembroke Pines mental facility is accused of murder.

At about 11 p.m. on September 13 at the South Florida State Hospital at 800 Cypress Drive, resident Alexander Ramseur, 63, was taken into custody.

The victim, whose identity authorities have withheld, passed away from his wounds on September 16.

According to court documents, paramedics transported the man to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood for treatment of head wounds after Pembroke Pines Fire Rescue responded to a 911 call for treatment of a potential heart attack.

According to police, investigators eventually concluded that the seriously wounded patient had been assaulted, and fellow resident Ramseur was detained.

Ramseur remained silent at his first court appearance.

He is still being held without bail in the Broward County Jail for a second-degree murder charge that has been increased.
