Non-Profit helps to provide bicycles to those that need them the most

Bicycles are more than just a means of transportation for Pat Simmons.

His ministry is among them. He runs a charitable organization called Bikes4Christ.

After a journey to provide food and clothing for individuals in need in 2016, he said he felt the desire to provide a hand in another capacity. Simmons said that after some contemplation, the solution occurred to him.

As he recalled the beginning of his ministry, Simmons stated, “You can assist these individuals with transportation.” Thus, my love of riding and something that truly served a purpose came together perfectly. We include a Gospel of John from the Pocket Testament League with every bike we distribute. It is only a little booklet.

For veterans, children from disadvantaged backgrounds, and other people who are striving to provide for their families via housing and food, Simmons and his volunteers repair motorcycles.

The ministry has distributed up to 300 motorcycles annually.

The Dover-based ministry of Simmons covers the counties of Hillsborough, Pinellas, and portions of Pasco and Polk.

International locations are also included in Bikes4Christ, such as Simmons’ journey to Guatemala and the first recipients of bicycles there.

Therefore, Simmons said, “the first was the future pastor of our church so he could move about in his flock.” The second individual was the once inebriated villager who now teaches daily bible study after discovering Jesus.

Simmons said he never dreamed he would be doing this in the future. He had just released a CD while he was in Nashville breaking into the country music scene.

Today, the most recent batch of motorcycles has been cleaned, mechanically inspected, and is ready for use.

It’s amusing, said Simmons. “I often tell people that I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life until I was nearly 50 years old.

“I intend to spend the rest of my life doing this.”
