Another disaster has occurred at a short-term rental holiday house. More than 20 gunshots were fired at a residential residence in Hollywood over the weekend, but no one was hurt, according to a doorbell camera that recorded the sound of the shots.
The neighbors are upset because there are bullet holes in the home and in the parked cars.
These problems are present in other rental homes as well. A 3-year-old daughter perished in a pool at an Airbnb on a building in southwest Miami-Dade last week.
Back in Hollywood, surveillance footage showed a guy firing at another residence last month while brandishing a long pistol. That house, according to the neighbors, is also a vacation rental.
The number of complaints in South Florida is rising. Residents who have lived in an area for a long period may occasionally have to cope with violent crimes, rowdy parties, and police action.
Local governments have taken action to address the annoyances they can occasionally cause. To prevent parties off of homes, Airbnb recently took action and prohibited one-night rentals on New Year’s Eve in Miami.
Ben Breit, director of trust and safety at Airbnb, said, “We love that people use our platform to fly to Miami and have that sort of fun, but when it comes to the real partying, do that in a bar, do that in a club, do that in an environment where it makes sense.” We simply don’t want it to occur at home.
