After responding to an allegation of an attempted burglary, Millburn police officers apprehended five teenagers from Newark on Saturday.
Millburn Police Officer Herrera came to the vicinity of Coniston Road on Saturday, May 28, about 1:31 p.m., following a report of an attempted burglary to a garage, according to the police.
Herrera was provided with a description of the suspects’ car. On Tennyson Drive, he observed a car that matched the description.
Herrera began following the car, a red 2018 Dodge Durango that police said had been reported stolen out of Newark.
According to authorities, the car fled on White Oak Ridge Road and crashed with a Tesla.
According to authorities, many individuals “bailed out of the Durango and escaped on foot along Hartshorn Drive.”
Officers Herrera, Recinos, and Goldfarb each pursued a suspect on foot, with assistance from officers from Millburn, Summit, Springfield, and the Essex County Sheriff’s Office.
According to authorities, the cops discovered two other suspects hiding in surrounding yards. A total of five persons have been captured.
Meanwhile, two Tesla occupants were evacuated to Saint Barnabas Medical Center with minor injuries.
Dupree Turner, 18, of Newark, was arrested and charged with receiving stolen items and obstruction, according to police. Later, he was freed on his own recognizance.
Delinquency charges were filed against two 17-year-old males and two 15-year-old females. Two of them were taken to the Essex County Youth House, while the other two were released to their parents, according to police.
