According to authorities, a Miami-Dade Police officer was detained on DUI charges in Hollywood while driving his marked police vehicle.

According to Broward County prison records, Leopold Louis, 42, was arrested on Sunday on counts of DUI and DUI with property damage.

On Monday, Louis appeared in court, where a judge issued him a $1,000 bail. Later, he was released on bail but did not talk with reporters.

Alfredo Ramirez, director of the Miami-Dade Police Department, said in a statement that the arresting officer was in a marked police vehicle at the time of the incident.

“This officer endangered the public in a vehicle that the community has entrusted to serve as a symbol of safety. I will not allow any Miami-Dade Police Department official who undermines the community’s confidence “Ramirez’s statement stated. We will enable the Hollywood Police Department to perform its investigation with utmost openness and trust in the justice system.

According to an arrest record, officers were sent to Pierce Street near U.S. 1 in response to an allegation of a drunk driver.

According to the report, authorities located Louis, who had been engaged in a hit-and-run immediately before the officer approached him.

According to the report, Louis was hardly able to stand, fumbled during a field sobriety test, and then blew a blood alcohol level considerably beyond Florida’s legal limit.

The report said, “He did not recognize he was engaged in an accident.” “The suspect continued to assert that his companion was waiting for him in the designated vehicle. His was the marked Miami-Dade Police vehicle in the vicinity.”

Louis, who had been with the agency since July 2017, was released with pay, according to department officials.
