Man in Late 50s Found Fatally Shot in St. Paul Senior Living Apartment

A homicide investigation is underway after a shooting in a senior living apartment complex in St. Paul.

Officers responded to a request to check on a person’s welfare at the Dayton’s Bluff building shortly before 7 p.m. Friday and discovered a man in his late 50s dead from a gunshot wound inside an apartment on the 700 block of East Seventh Street.

“At first, officers were unsure whether the injury was self-inflicted or caused by someone else,” police said in a statement. “However, after members of the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office and our forensic services unit responded and gathered more information and evidence, it became clear that someone had shot the man.”

As of Saturday afternoon, no one has been arrested. Investigators are trying to figure out what led to the shooting, which didn’t appear to be random, and police are looking for surveillance film that might help them figure out what happened.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 651-266-5650.

After the medical examiner’s office confirms the man’s identification, the police department will reveal his name.

In St. Paul, the homicide was the 19th of the year.
