Man fatally shot seconds after St. Paul 911 call

Tuesday night, a man was shot and killed outside a home off St. Paul’s Payne Avenue, and a 20-year-old was taken into custody by police.

Just after 10 o’clock in the evening, someone contacted 911 to report that there were gunmen outside their house in the 600 block of Preble Street.

The 911 caller said that bullets had been fired within 30 seconds, according to a statement released by the police department early on Wednesday.

The Eastern District station of the police department is around two blocks away from the spot.

After hearing the gunshot, a neighboring police officer ran to the scene and reported that someone had been shot in front of the Preble Street address. The man was pronounced deceased at the site by paramedics.

On suspicion of murder, police detained a 20-year-old guy on the 600 block of Preble Street and lodged him in the Ramsey County jail.

The 32nd homicide in St. Paul this year ties the total from this time last year.
