Man fatally shot seconds after 911 call about people with guns outside St. Paul home

Tuesday night, a man lost his life in a shooting outside a house on Payne Avenue in St. Paul.

Just after 10 o’clock in the evening, someone contacted 911 to report that there were gunmen outside their house in the 600 block of Preble Street.

The 911 caller said that bullets had been fired within 30 seconds, according to a statement released by the police department early on Wednesday.

The Eastern District station of the police department is around two blocks away from the spot.

After hearing the gunshot, a neighboring police officer ran to the scene and reported that someone had been shot in front of the Preble Street address. The man was pronounced deceased at the site by paramedics.

As of early Wednesday, nobody was detained. Police were gathering evidence and interrogating witnesses.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the investigators at 651-266-5650.

The 32nd homicide in St. Paul this year ties the total from this time last year.
