The remains of two males were taken from the Minnesota River on Sunday, according to the Renville County Sheriff’s Office, who were engaged in separate events.
The victims’ names have not been revealed, and the cases are still being investigated.
The sheriff’s office got a 911 call regarding a corpse entangled in a logjam on the river between Franklin and Morton at 2:58 p.m. Sunday. The sheriff’s offices in Renville and Redwood counties, as well as the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, were dispatched to the scene.
An adult male’s body was discovered and retrieved. The corpse was sent to the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office for identification and a cause and manner of death examination.
The second incident happened at 5:23 p.m. on Sunday, when the sheriff’s office got another 911 call, this time reporting a person drowning in the river near Vicksburg County Park, south of Renville.
On the scene, it was discovered that a young man had gone swimming in the river with his family. The man was not wearing a life jacket and was struggling in the water before vanishing. Several boats were sent by emergency services to look for the missing person.
Around 7:40 p.m., the man was retrieved from the water and resuscitation procedures were started before he was transferred to the Redwood Falls hospital. He was declared dead on the spot.
