Man charged federally with armed robberies of markets on St. Paul’s University Avenue

The U.S. attorney’s office stated on Monday that a man has been accused in federal court with robbing three University Avenue markets in St. Paul last spring.

According to an indictment submitted to U.S. District Court, Nicholas Antwain Dancy, 38, is accused of stealing Towfiq Grocery, Midway Grocery and Deli, and Global Food & Mid Market between May 27 and June 5.

Charges assert that Dancy threatened employees with a gun and demanded money.

Since Dancy has a criminal record, it is against the law for him to own a gun or ammunition.

He faces three Hobbs Act robbery counts, one count of brandishing a handgun during or in connection with a violent crime, and one count of having a firearm while a felon. In Ramsey County, he was found guilty of felony domestic abuse in 2016 and 2020.
