The 72-year-old victim of a carjacking that occurred this morning at 4:30 a.m. at a Wawa is being sought by Maplewood police, who are also hunting for the offender.
According to police, they got a 911 call on Thursday informing them of a carjacking/robbery that had taken place in the Wawa parking lot at 1511 Springfield Ave.
The man claimed that after he left the business, an unidentified man approached him and demanded the keys to his car.
After pushing the victim, he once more demanded the keys. According to police, the suspect then went into the man’s pocket and pulled out the keys.
According to the police, the guy got into the vehicle and drove it east on Springfield Avenue into Irvington.
The male was characterized as being between the ages of 16 and 19 and as not having any facial hair, blue trousers, or a shirt on.
According to authorities, the victim declined medical assistance and was unharmed. There were no firearms displayed, he added.
Using the victim’s phone as a tracking device, detectives found the abandoned car parked close to 138 Hunterdon St. in Newark. It was transported to the police department’s main office to be examined for evidence.
