Man Accused of Stealing Truck With $250K in Electronics Inside Near Miami Airport

According to authorities, a guy is accused of stealing a box truck near Miami International Airport last year that contained $250,000 worth of gadgets.

Two counts of grand theft led to the arrest of Alain Rangel, 37, on Tuesday, according to Miami-Dade prison records.

According to an arrest complaint, the crime took place at Miami International Airport Cargo City on Northwest 18th Street on July 2, 2021.

According to the complaint, surveillance video showed a white Isuzu box truck coming up, a guy stepping out, and the man moving toward another box truck.

The man climbed inside the second box truck and started it. According to the report, the vehicle was filled with gadgets worth $250,000.

After the heist, the vehicle was discovered empty and abandoned after around 30 minutes.

The Isuzu box truck and another truck were seen by other video cameras approaching the establishment before the crime, according to the report.

The two trucks were seized by Miami-Dade Police murder investigators in November 2021 as a result of a homicide investigation, which indicated Rangel was a suspect in the case, according to the report.

Rangel provided his cellphone information during that inquiry, and when investigators looked through his phone records, they discovered that his phone had been in the vicinity of both the theft and the location where the stolen box truck was found on July 2, according to the report.

Rangel was detained after being taken into custody. There was no information about the attorney.

Rangel was one of many suspects detained in the 2012 theft of a truck from a northwest Miami-Dade shipping company that contained $2.5 million in cell phones and perfume.

According to court documents, he was sentenced to ten years of probation in the matter, which was to expire in January 2024.
