The most recent city to formally submit a proposal to host the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest is Liverpool.
The first round of the two-step process has begun, and the city is hoping to create a shortlist of possible host cities.
The European Broadcasting Union will release the shortlist on BBC Radio 2 on Friday morning.
Newcastle, Leeds, Birmingham, Aberdeen, Brighton, Bristol, and Belfast are a few more cities that have submitted bids to host the songwriting competition.
Councillor Harry Doyle, assistant mayor and cabinet member for culture and tourism, said the city would be “the right venue to celebrate our unique Eurovision.”
We are thrilled to have proposed Liverpool as the 2023 host city for the Eurovision Song Contest, he said.
“While it will need careful and innovative preparation to make a huge event like this happen in such a short amount of time, we believe Liverpool would be the ideal location to honor this particular Eurovision.
“We are eager to see if we were successful in moving on to the next round of the process.”
The Ukrainian Kalush Orchestra took first place in this year’s tournament, and typically the winner nation hosts the event the following year.
However, Ukraine is unable to host owing to the continuing conflict in the nation, and the UK has stepped in after Sam Ryder finished in second place.
Previous host towns had to provide a stadium with space for at least 10,000 spectators, close to an international airport, and with plenty of hotel rooms.
Eight times, the UK has hosted the Eurovision Song Contest, four times in London and the other cities of Edinburgh, Brighton, Harrogate, and Birmingham.
