According to police, a young man out for a jog in Maplewood was assaulted by two men he attempted to pass on the street Wednesday morning. They are now on the lookout for the assailants.

The victim, 18, was “out for a jog” on Boyden Avenue about 1 a.m. on Wednesday, according to police. Two guys were alleged to be approaching him, according to the police. He tried to get around them, but one of them hit him in the face, according to him.

According to investigators, the adolescent was knocked out by the punch. After then, “The suspects attacked the victim and demanded his possessions. The victim was able to rise to his feet and flee. None of the victim’s items were taken by the accused.”

“The injuries received were serious enough for the victim to be hospitalised for further treatment,” police stated after the adolescent was transported to the hospital. According to them, the injuries are not life-threatening.

The suspects are described as two dark-clothed guys in their early twenties, one tall and slender and wearing a mask. The other was described as 5’8″ tall, stocky, with a beard, and no mask on.

“Based on what we’ve uncovered so far, these individuals were walking around the area surveilling the area previous to the event,” said Chief Jimmy DeVaul. “The public is advised to contact the police if they see anything odd.”

He said police haven’t established if a car is involved.
