Hopkins man drowns in north-central Minnesota boating accident

In southwest Aitkin County, a 25-year-old Hopkins man perished in the water on Elm Island Lake on Saturday.

Emergency dispatchers were alerted about a man overboard on a lake around 4 p.m. on Saturday in Nordland Township, southeast of the city of Aitkin, according to the Aitkin County Sheriff’s Office.

Using boats, deputies started searching for the missing guy after being called to the north end of Elm Island Lake.

A group of pals had been out fishing for around two hours, according to the first report. When the victim unexpectedly fell into the sea, he was drinking and sat on the side of the boat. The victim did not emerge and was not donning a life jacket. One of the victim’s pals dove into the water to look for the victim, but they were unable to find him or her in the murky water.

After being contacted, the Crow Wing County Dive/Rescue Team arrived at Elm Island Lake to help with the search. The victim was found using marine electronics. The corpse was found by the Crow Wing County Dive Team at 7:59 o’clock.

Daniel Thomas Nelson was named as the victim. According to the first findings of the Ramsey County medical examiner, Nelson drowned in freshwater.
