Firefighters are putting out a fire at a former nightclub in the heart of the city.
Crews responded to the fire at the old location of the 051 club on Mount Pleasant in Liverpool, according to Merseyside Fire and Rescue, just after 11:30 BST.
A ground floor stairway fire required the dispatch of four engines and an aerial appliance, according to a spokeswoman.
Due to the significant quantity of smoke, residents and businesses have been asked to keep their doors and windows closed.
The representative also stated that Merseyside Police had shut down Mount Pleasant while the firefighters investigated the structure for any other flames.
