Driver Killed, Passenger Injured in Crash Along Mississippi River in St. Paul

At 2:15 a.m. on Sunday, a single-vehicle accident on Shepard Road beneath the Robert Street Bridge resulted in one fatality and one injury.

When the Dodge Ram truck swerved off the right side of the road and slammed into the fence and support structures along the Mississippi River, it was traveling east, according to authorities.

The St. Paul Fire Department paramedics declared the driver, an adult man, dead at the spot. An adult male passenger who was also located inside the car was brought to Regions Hospital with what are not thought to be life-threatening injuries. The men were not immediately identified by police.

Speed was a role in the incident, according to the early investigation, according to Mike Ernster, a spokesperson for the St. Paul police.
