Cross-Dressing Serial Shoplifter Behind Bars in Broward

According to court documents, a Miami Gardens male who occasionally dresses as a woman to shoplift faces an increasing number of charges after being accused of grand theft at establishments from Miami to Altamonte Springs.

Jamarian Ashford Brooks, who turned 20 on Wednesday, allegedly went into a Bath & Body Works shop with two other ladies on June 25, 2021, and stole scented candles and perfumes.

On July 5, 2021, he and two alleged accomplices broke into a Bath and Body Works store in Deerfield Beach and stole fragrances for wallflower heaters and scented candles valued close to $2,700.

On July 14, 2021, the three struck again, robbing a Bath and Body Works store in Hollywood of more over $2,000 worth of candles and perfumes.

On the same day, the trio burglarized a Coral Springs Total Wine shop and took 31 tequila bottles valued a total of $1,925.

On July 25, Brooks and an accused accomplice attacked a 71-year-old cashier at a Walgreen’s in Pembroke Pines in order to steal a $100 bottle of Hennessey and other things.

Two days later, in Davie, Brooks and three accused accomplices attacked a Walgreen’s employee and pepper sprayed him in order to steal a bottle of Patron tequila.

On July 27 as well, Brooks and the other suspects broke into a Hobby Lobby in Davie and stole $225 worth of products before pepper spraying the manager and hitting him in the head with a basket before escaping in a car.

According to authorities, Brooks was apprehended in Miami for stealing at a BJ’s Wholesale Warehouse.

The majority of the time, security footage showed the suspects, who were dressed as women, loading shopping carts and bags with scented candles, perfumes, and alcohol.

They would take off without paying and get away in several cars, at least one of which had been reported stolen, according to the police.

Several counts of grand theft, armed robbery, and violence on a person over 65 are brought against Brooks.

According to documents, he was placed into the Broward County Jail on Wednesday and is still there today, being held on $78,000 in bonds.
