According to investigators, the CEO of Coral Gables Hospital was murdered and then committed suicide on Wednesday.
Officials said that Cristina Jimenez, 61, was murdered by her husband Antonio Mazzorana at their house in the Schenley Park community in Coral Gables. Mazzorana then committed suicide.
Friday, the holiday manager of Coral Gables Hospital described the news of Jimenez’s death as “extremely sad” but was unable to give any information.
Miami-Dade Police have not disclosed the circumstances surrounding the murder-suicide. Neighbors who did not want to comment on camera described the two as a medical “power couple” who looked to have a healthy relationship despite their professional success.
Ivan Mazzorana, Mazzorana’s younger brother, told NBC 6 that the family does not completely get what occurred and assumed that everything was good between the couple.
“My family and Cristina’s family are dear to me. This is incomprehensible,” remarked Ivan Mazzorano.
Jimenez has served in numerous capacities at Coral Gables Hospital for over 30 years. In 2017, she was elevated to CEO.
“We are devastated by the untimely death of Cristina, our colleague, and friend. She was a vital part of our hospital and community,” said the South Florida area president of Steward Health Care, Joshua Putter. “Every day, we shall miss her as a leader, coworker, friend, and shining star. We offer the family our sympathies and prayers, and we grieve alongside them. Jose Molliner will act as the temporary president of the institution. “I have faith that Jose will bring leadership and solace at this time of difficulty.”
