A foster child born in the United States who was to be transported to live with relatives in Haiti will stay in South Florida for the time being.
Since Angel’s birth, Tamara Simmons and her husband Gerald have been Angel’s foster parents in Broward, Florida.
Angel’s parents renounced their parental rights, according to court filings, but Angel’s grandma said she could care for the youngster in Haiti.
A court in Broward County had determined that Angel would be put with his grandmother in Haiti, but Simmons said that they wanted to submit an adoption application.
A judge agreed on Thursday that it’s best for the child to remain in the U.S., as the situation in Haiti has become more dangerous and the child’s medical issues have worsened.
Among his physical issues is a cardiac defect that requires therapy.
The grandmother was unable to be in court, but the judge made it plain that she will be heard prior to a final ruling.
