A Minnesota dad is accused of fatally shooting the boyfriend of his daughter whom he thought was mistreating her.
The father of Brainerd, Michael Lee LaFlex, 45, is accused with second-degree murder in the death of Bryce Brogle, 23, who went to the man’s storage unit on October 26 and was reported missing.
A criminal complaint claims that LaFlex killed Brogle by shooting him in the back of the head from a distance before burying him in Crow Wing County.
On October 28, LaFlex’s daughter called the police to report her boyfriend missing, saying he hadn’t been seen since he went to the storage facility with her father.
On October 29, when a search warrant was carried out at the storage facility, investigators allegedly discovered blood, bleach, and indications that something had been dragged over the concrete floor.
On foot, law enforcement authorities explored a piece of land in Crow Wing County the next day and discovered a burial. According to the lawsuit, a body with a gunshot wound to the back of the head was discovered when it was unearthed. It was Brogle, according to an autopsy.
The landlord of Brogle and his girlfriend allegedly phoned the sheriff’s office and claimed that LaFlex had inquired as to whether Brogle had injured his daughter. According to the landlord, his daughter was spotted with two black eyes. According to the lawsuit, LaFlex then informed the landlord that he had already dug a hole and was going to kill Brogle.
LaFlex has a criminal background, according to court documents in Minnesota.
He pleaded guilty to the charge and was found guilty of third-degree criminal sexual conduct in Cass County in June 1999. LaFlex was sentenced to supervised probation for five years after the judge decided to postpone the sentence.
LaFlex was found guilty in September 2018 of fourth-degree criminal sexual behavior with a defenseless or intellectually challenged victim. In this instance as well, LaFlex entered a guilty plea, and his sentence was suspended pending the successful completion of two years of probation. After LaFlex completed her probation, the proceedings were terminated in September 2020.
LaFlex’s case is the third murder case that is now being prosecuted in Crow Wing County, and they all stem from the same approximate location.
Other defendants include 53-year-old Michael Lowell Munger, who is accused of killing Lynnie Ann Loucks at a house they shared in the First Assessment District north of Brainerd, and 30-year-old Cameron Jay Moser, who is accused of killing Bethany Anne Bernatsky at Cozy Bay Resort north of Merrifield.
