Authorities in Minnesota say a triple murder-suicide is being looked into after the remains of three small children and a woman who is thought to be their mother were found in a lake.
The children’s father’s body was discovered hours earlier at a separate site. As of Saturday afternoon, names had not yet been disclosed. Two boys and a girl, all under the age of five, made up the group of kids.
The man’s body was discovered at a mobile home park in the town of Maplewood, close to Minneapolis, on Friday morning, setting off a series of events. When police learned that the mom had departed with the kids, a search was launched.
Around 4 o’clock on Friday, according to Maplewood Police Lt. Joe Steiner, the woman’s automobile was discovered close to Vadnais Lake. On the shore, the kids’ shoes were discovered.
The first child’s corpse was pulled from the lake, according to the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office, about 7:30 on Friday night. Just after midnight, the second child’s body was discovered. The third child’s body was discovered at 11 a.m. on Saturday, while the woman’s body was discovered around 10:40 a.m.
The bodies were brought to a coroner.
According to a press release, the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office is looking into the event as a potential triple murder-suicide.
At a press conference on Friday, Ramsey County Sheriff Bob Fletcher remarked, “There’s nothing more terrible than the loss of young children.”
