Abortion rights advocates to hold get-out-the-vote event in St. Paul

Advocates for abortion rights had hoped that the U.S. Voters would finally be convinced that the Republican promise to outlaw abortion was sincere and now feasible in all 50 states thanks to the Supreme Court’s June Dobbs ruling reversing Roe v. Wade.

However, research indicates that voters’ attention has recently shifted away from abortion rights and toward Republicans, which is to be expected in a midterm election year with a Democrat in the White House.

Now, Minnesota pro-choice activists are attempting to regain their summertime momentum by hosting a concert, voter registration drive, and fundraising event on Saturday at the former Sears parking lot next to the Capitol.

Various musicians will perform music and humor during the “Rise for Roe” event.

In addition to various musicians and comedians, the event will include Minneapolis singer-songwriter Chastity Brown as the headlining act and Bad Bad Hats, a band that got its start at Macalester College in St. Paul in 2013.

Contrary to what Republican candidates are saying, the event’s organizers want to make people aware that abortion rights are at risk in November while also making it entertaining.

Former lobbyist and event planner Tara Erickson stated, “Abortion is on the ballot, and people need to understand that. “We want people to be fired up about this and aware that women’s rights are on the Minnesota ballot,” says the campaign manager.

The event will also feature medical professionals, including OBGYNs, who will dispel myths about abortion and share facts about the procedure. Voter guides and information on registering and voting are also being distributed by the organizers.

Although admission to the event is free, the organizers encourage donations, all of which will go to organizations that support or facilitate abortions.

On Saturday, the event runs from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. On the event’s Facebook page or website, further details are available.
