Backwards Compatibility Announcement
The backwards compatibility of the PS5 currently allows for users to play PS4 titles on the console by simply placing the disc into the console. A much welcome change from the previous backwards compatibility capabilities of the PS4.
However, tech reporters began to notice Sony pulling gift cards from retailers, as well as many previously available PS3 games that were available on the PS5 storefront.
This led to widespread speculation about the coming update to Sony’s subscription model, which will be shifting to a system code named “Spartacus.”
Sony later confirmed the suspicions through a news post, detailing their future plans for the console, especially when it comes to backwards compatibility for PS3 titles.
The takeaway from the news is that Sony is working to enable as many PS3, PS2, and even a select few PS1 titles to be played directly on the PS5. All supplied through “Spartacus”, gamers will be able to relive the glory days of the Playstation, all without needing to buy vintage hardware.
Is The PS5 Shortage Behind Us?
Frustration is the word most who use to describe trying to get their hands on a PS5 over the past two years, and you can’t deny is comes with some merit.
For the majority of gamers, the console as been out of reach since its release. For others, scalper prices have been the grim reality of getting the console. With only a small portion of gamers being able to pick up the console directly from online and physical retailers.
Sony has been upfront about their issues regarding PS5’s supply troubles, and with 2022 now here, they have amped up their efforts to make sure the console can get into as many hands as possible.
You will no longer have to concern yourself with scalpers, or waiting in a digital line to pick up a console. With production set to increase by almost 150% in 2022, there will be plenty of PS5 consoles to go around.
