Alex Jones’ Infowars Files for Bankruptcy

The website creator behind the infamous Infowars and conspiracy theorist Alex Jones is facing defamation lawsuits over his remarks that the Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy was a fake, so Infowars filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

The company’s bankruptcy filing in Texas on Sunday halts civil proceedings while it reorganizes its finances.

Infowars stated in its court petition that it has assets of $50,000 or less and liabilities of $1 million to $10 million. Relatives of some of the 20 students and six instructors murdered in the 2012 Connecticut school shooting are among the creditors named in the bankruptcy filing.

The plaintiffs in that action claim they have been harassed and threatened with death by Jones’ followers as a result of Jones’ promotion of a phony conspiracy. Jones has recently admitted that the incident did have place. Jones has previously been sued for defamation by the families.

Jones is accused of concealing millions of dollars in assets in a new lawsuit, but a counsel for Jones has dismissed the claim as “crazy.”
