Falcon Heights remembers Philando Castile with Restoration and Unity days


Mike Munzenrider • A memorial to Philando Castile stands near the spot on Larpenteur Avenue in Falcon Heights where he was killed by a police officer during a traffic stop in 2016. The Falcon Heights City Council passed a proclamation May 23 designating two July days in his memory.

Nearly two years after Philando Castile was killed by a police officer during a traffic stop in Falcon Heights, the Falcon Heights City Council voted unanimously to designate two July days in his memory.

Huskies baseball coach notches 300th win


Solomon Gustavo photo • St. Anthony Village High School baseball coach Troy Urdahl recorded his 300th career win at Palm Field May 31, when the Huskies beat St. Paul Como Park 10-0.

On a picturesque day at St. Anthony Village High School’s Palm Field, the weather finally delivered summer heat like a rusty pitcher, and the only clouds in the blue sky were fluffy, and the varsity baseball team beat St. Paul Como Park 10-0.

Metzen honored with memorial at Swing Bridge Park


Hannah Burlingame/Review • A new memorial is in place at Rock Island Swing Bridge Park. It honors the late Jim Metzen, who served Inver Grove Heights during his time as a state senator. Metzen is credited with helping save the bridge from demolition.

Those walking the pier at Rock Island Swing Bridge Park in Inver Grove Heights will notice a new memorial bench at the end in honor of someone who helped keep the bridge alive.

Bringing shock and surprise, Ward 6 restaurant closes


Marjorie Otto/Review • During the afternoon of May 30, a line of people waited to be seated at Ward 6 restaurant for what could be their last meal there. The restaurant announced May 28 that it would be shutting its doors, serving its last meals during brunch on June 3.

After five and half years of calling Payne Avenue home and becoming a staple of the neighborhood, Ward 6 restaurant announced May 28 that the eatery would serve its last meals during brunch on Sunday, June 3.

Local emergency agencies hold active shooter training


Solomon Gustavo photo • First responders from around the region — including the New Brighton Department of Public Safety, Roseville and St. Anthony fire departments, the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office and Allina paramedics, among others — participated in active shooter training at the former Korean United Methodist Church in New Brighton in late May.

The condemned building of the former Korean United Methodist Church in New Brighton has proven an apt site for Ramsey County and local emergency agencies to train for an active shooter in a big, public place.
