Raiders, Beacons earn big volleyball wins

The prep volleyball teams at Roseville Area High School and Concordia Academy put together solid stretches of matches last week. Both teams are ranked in the state's top 10 and might even move up in this week's poll.

Roseville volleyball has become the hunted

A year ago, the Roseville Area High School volleyball team was coming off a "Cinderella" season that included a trip to the state tournament. Last year's team was dealing with the graduation of three key players in that tournament run and faced a number of unknowns.
This year, the Raiders are also preparing for a season following a state-tournament trip but have a much better feel of what to expect from their lineup.

The Class AA high school volleyball rankings were released last week and Concordia Academy landed in the top 10. The Beacons are ranked 10th to begin the season.

Roseville’s Maloney a double national champion

Having an eighth-grader in the starting lineup in a high school varsity team sport is relatively rare, especially at bigger metro-area schools. Breanna Maloney did just that two years ago on the volleyball team at Roseville Area High School.

Volleyball: Hill-Murray advances to state tournament finals

The Hill-Murray High School Pioneers won the Classic Suburban Conference volleyball title for the fifth year running. They moved through Section 4AA with three wins and advanced to the 2013 Minnesota State Class AA Volleyball Tournament for the first time.
The Pioneers then won their first two matches, defeating Dassel-Cokato and Kasson-Mantorville, before running into the Marshall Tigers in the championship game Saturday, Nov. 9.

RAHS volleyball puts wraps on its season

The Roseville Area High School volleyball team made its second consecutive appearance in the state tournament last week. This year’s results weren’t as positive as last year’s but the experience should help out when the 2014 season rolls around.The Raiders went 0-2 in the Class AAA state tournament after going 2-1 and finishing fifth in 2012.

SAVHS volleyball falls to top seed

The St. Anthony Village High School volleyball team saw its season come to an end in the Section 5AA playoffs on Oct. 29. The Huskies dropped a four-set decision 30-28, 23-25, 25-22, 25-16 to Maple Lake.

Volleyball: Hill-Murray headed to state after downing St. Croix Lutheran

Hill-Murray is headed to the Class 2A state tournament after a convincing volleyball win over St. Croix Lutheran in the Section 4AA playoffs Oct. 31.
Meanwhile, the Stillwater Ponies came to North High School for a Section 4AAA semifinal volleyball match against the Polars Oct. 29.
Prior to the North and Stillwater match, the Roseville Raiders stymied the Cretin-Derham Hall team in four games. The win advanced the Raiders to championship play for the second consecutive year.
