Ryan Bernardy, Noah Bluth, Zach Siggelkow and Katie Wortman-Otto signed National Letters of Intent on Nov. 13. All three accepted athletic scholarship offers to Division II schools.

Girls hockey season starts up this week

The calendar might say it’s still autumn but the high school winter sports season has started. One Bulletin-area girls hockey team opened its season last weekend and the other two start things off this week.
This is a big season for all three teams. Two of them are out to prove that the success they enjoyed last year wasn’t a fluke and the third is playing under a new coach.

The Mounds View High School football team has been to the section final in seven consecutive years. The Mustangs haven’t won all of those games but they’ve usually been competitive. That wasn’t the case last week, however.
Mounds View couldn’t keep up with Rosemount in the Class 6A playoffs on Friday. The Irish scored six touchdowns while holding the Mustangs to 99 yards of offense in their 42-7 victory.

St. Anthony volleyball wins playoff opener

The St. Anthony Village High School volleyball team finished the regular season with a losing record (11-13) but that was good enough to get the Huskies a home match in the first round of the playoffs. They made the most of the opportunity and now have a new opportunity.
St. Anthony, seeded fourth in the South sub-section of Section 5AA, beat fifth-seeded Mound Westonka in four games (25-16, 25-14, 12-25, 25-12). The White Hawks won just three matches in the regular season but was still seeded ahead of three other teams in the sub-section.

Mustangs, Huskies headed to state cross country meet

Three teams from Section 5AA were ranked in the final Class AA boys cross country coaches poll last week. That meant that one ranked team would be left out of the state meet.
Mounds View was one of the teams that made the cut by finishing in the top two of the team standings at the section meet held Oct. 24 at Anoka High School. The Mustangs' 78 points were enough for second place and that was good enough to secure a berth in Saturday's state meet.

Mustangs avenge loss, advance to section final

There was a time in the late 1990s and early 2000s when Mounds View and White Bear Lake met in the section playoffs nearly every year. What made that era even more notable was that it seemed more often than not that the team that lost the regular-season match-up would rise up and get revenge in the post-season.

Mounds View volleyball set for post-season

The Mounds View High School volleyball team is one of four 20-match winners in Section 5AAA. The Mustangs are the No. 4 seed and open the post-season at home on Thursday.
Mounds View hosts the winner of a first-round match between fifth-seeded St. Michael-Albertville (17-11) and No. 12 Irondale. Following a 5-3 start to the season, the Mustangs lost just once in their next 15 matches. Included in that stretch was a championship at the Centennial tournament and a runner-up finish at the Alexandria tournament.
