Boys basketball playoffs kick into high gear this week

If it seems like the section playoffs for boys basketball are starting early this year, you’re right. Because of a one-year schedule change, boys basketball and girls basketball have traded places on the calendar.
Some boys hoops section tournaments started last week but the Bulletin-area squads open the post-season this week. Here’s a look at where each team stands.

Mustangs looking to add to championship haul

A year ago, the Mounds View High School girls hockey team won its first Suburban East Conference championship but that’s where the title trophy collection stopped. The Mustangs advanced to the section final last year but came up short in its quest for the section crown.
A year later, Mounds View finds itself in a similar position. The Mustangs wrapped up its second consecutive conference title last weekend and are now prepping for the post-season.

SAVHS looking to turn a corner

With only two seniors in the starting lineup, the St. Anthony Village High School boys basketball team has suffered through some growing pains this season. That fact is evident in the Huskies’ record, which prior to last Friday included only one win.
St. Anthony was able to double its win total with a come-from-behind victory over a conference rival on Friday and that win had first-year head coach Chris Hergenrader excited about the future.
