For the second consecutive year, the Mounds View High School football team opened the season with a game at Woodbury, and now, for two years in a row, the Mustangs have beaten the Royals in the season opener.

The Mounds View High School football team has played in the game to go to the state tournament the last three seasons, but came up short all three times. The Mustangs open the season this week with the goal of ending that tournament-less drought.


New era begins for Irondale football

A new era of football begins at Irondale High School this week. The Knights have a new coach and are playing a schedule that includes six games against teams they haven't seen much of over the years.


District 621 School Board approves contract with paraprofessional union

The Mounds View School Board approved the proposed contract between the district and the Paraprofessional Union of School Services Employees, Local 282 at its Tuesday, March 11 board meeting.
Amy Jo Johnson, District 621 employee relations and benefits manager, said the district had met with union members on seven separate occasions and she recommended that the board approve the contract as ratified by the paraprofessional union on Feb. 27.


District 621 begins moving programs for all-day K

The Mounds View School District has begun relocating education programs to make way for the transition to free all-day kindergarten next school year.
The relocation of programs at the Snail Lake and Pike Lake education centers are necessary to make room for two kindergarten centers. The district’s six elementary schools will house first through fifth grades starting this fall, and all the district’s kindergarteners will attend classes at the two new centers.


District 621 makes 2013 AP Honor Roll

Students at both Irondale and Mounds View high schools have been excelling in AP (Advanced Placement) courses and outperforming their peers in most school districts across the state -- garnering the attention of the College Board and earning the Mounds View Public School District a spot on the AP Honor Roll once again this year.


Incumbents reign in Mounds View School Board elections

Last week, voters reelected three incumbents to serve new four-year terms on the Mounds View Area School Board.
Challenger John Hakes received 18.82 percent of total votes cast, but was roughly 1,100 votes shy of obtaining a seat on the board.


Mounds View School Board rallies in support of levy renewal

ISD 621 School Board Members have been meeting with city council members in cities within the school district’s boundaries recently to garner support from the public for a proposed tax levy renewal referendum that will appear on the ballot on Nov. 5.  
On Monday, Oct. 14 District 621 School Board Member Bob Helgeson and District 621 Superintendent Dan Hoverman met with the Arden Hills City Council to address the matter of levy renewal. In his presentation to the council, Helgeson noted that levy funding is vital to the district’s Equity Promise, which he said is a commitment to make sure all students attending Mounds View Schools are prepared for post-secondary success, regardless of race, class or disability.


Mounds View School Board seeks levy renewal

The Mounds View School Board unanimously approved a resolution to put a levy renewal referendum on the ballot in November.
The district has been receiving $11.5 million annually from a voter approved property tax levy, which began in 2006 and will expire at the end of 2014.
