Urban Roots picnic and theater

Urban Roots will team up with Picnic Operetta from Mixed Precipitation for a wood-fired pizza and salad night on Thursday, Aug. 8, 4:30 to 8 p.m. at 463 Maria Ave. in Dayton’s Bluff. Mixed Precipitation is a performance company exploring text, space and form with festive theatrical events that inspire social engagement; its major event of the season is a Picnic Operetta.  It is a lively theater experience touring to community gardens and other green spaces throughout the Twin Cities metro. It brings together classical music, horticulture, food, and storytelling into a celebration of the urban ecosystem. For this family-friendly performance, it is a delicious garden-grown pizza evening with Urban Roots. Bring your own picnic supplies, desserts and beverages, and Urban Roots will provide the pizza and salads. The event will also include brews from Saint Paul Brewing for those 21 years of age and older.  Tickets are $25 for adults 13 years of age and older. Tickets for kids ages 5 through 12 are $10, and children under 5 require no ticket.

Funds collected from ticket sales will go towards Urban Roots’ community based work around farming, cooking and habitat restoration.  Urban Roots offers youth ages 14 to 18 from St. Paul’s East Side paid internships in three program areas: Market Garden, Conservation, and Cook Fresh. The program model engages youth in career exploration, entrepreneurial ventures, 21st century job skills, self-discovery, and more.
