NEWSBRIEF: Mounds View resident ends tenure on Aquatennial Ambassador Crew

Marjorie Weinhagen

The 2019 Minneapolis Aquatennial Ambassador Crew, which includes Mounds View resident Marjorie Weinhagen, will be ending its term during this year’s festival in late July.

The 2019 Ambassador Crew consists of: Queen of the Lakes Haley Rogers from Albertville, Commodore Ann Bailey with the non-profit DARTS, Aquatennial Princess Mandy Rochel from Chisago Lakes, Captain Marjorie Weinhagen with Weinhagen Tires, Aquatennial Princess Courtney Engholm from Sleepy Eye and Captain Jackie Paul with 360 Communities.

This has been the first time in the festival’s 80-year history that the ambassador crew has been made up entirely of women. Weinhagen, who is a Mounds View resident and office manager at Weinhagen Tires, served as one of two captains in the group.

“The Aquatennial Ambassador Organization’s mission is to inspire young women to achieve extraordinary futures by providing professional development opportunities,” explained team commodore Ann Bailey. As ambassadors, the crew attended roughly 250 community events throughout North America over the last year.

“Having Jackie and Marjorie on our team demonstrated women leading at various life stages,” Bailey added. “The adult roles balance the college-aged ambassadors, allowing us to really connect in the community.”

Weinhagen said that the best part of her year has been watching the growth in the ambassadors; both within her crew and among those they have met along the way.

“The difference in their confidence, speaking ability, professionalism, small talk, the way they carry themselves and so much more is such a gift to see evolve,” she said.

The public is invited to attend the Commodore’s Dinner on Thursday, July 25 to celebrate the team’s year. Tickets for the dinner, and information about the 2020 Ambassador Coronation, is available at www.aquatennialambassadors.com/events.
