NEWSBRIEF: Free, healthy lunches served for youth during the summer

Youth ages 18 and younger can drop in for a free, nutritious lunch this summer at Wentworth Library and Burnhaven Library.

The Summer Meals program is dedicated to helping youth thrive and succeed in their learning. When school is not in session during the summer, youth no longer have access to school lunch. Lack of nutrition during the summer months can be a roadblock to learning, and Summer Meals is designed to fill this gap by providing healthy meals to youth.

Meals are available from noon to 1 p.m. Monday–Friday at Wentworth Library, 199 E. Wentworth Ave., West St. Paul. They are offered from noon to 1 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday at Burnhaven Library, 1101 W. County Road 42, Burnsville. Summer Meals runs through Aug. 30, excluding July 4.

Meals served are kosher and do not contain nuts or pork. Library staff can request vegetarian and lactose-free options for patrons. Meals are provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

The library is partnering with YouthPrise and the Minnesota Department of Education through its Summer Food Service Program. For more information, visit, search “Summer Meals.”
