Irondale Winter Drumline places ninth at world championship

For the fourth consecutive year, the Irondale High School Winter Drumline advanced to the Winter Guard International (WGI) World Championship in Ohio.

After three days of intense competition ending April 13, the 51-member ensemble finished ninth overall in the Percussion Scholastic Open Class, competing against 50 other teams.

Earlier this season, Irondale won its division at the Minnesota Percussion Association State Championship. The team has been a state champion 10 times since it started competing in 1990, and five of those titles have come in the last six years.

Irondale’s varsity Winter Color Guard was also a strong competitor at the WGI Championship, competing against 62 groups from across the globe.

At the Minnesota State Championship, the varsity team took the silver medal in the highly competitive Scholastic A Class, while the junior guard was crowned Scholastic Cadet Class State Champions at the same event.
