Arden Hills

Grandson, stealing squatter

After Grandma was moved to an assisted living facility and despite his uncles never giving him permission to be there, a 26-year-old Mounds View man got into his grandmother’s Glen Paul Avenue home and stayed there, stealing and selling her stuff to support a meth habit. The uncles had apparently encountered the man and another at the home stealing tools; the structure’s wires had been stripped as well. Deputies went to the home the afternoon of Feb. 28 and found the man coming out of the home with a box; he’d broken in through the back door. In a running car in the driveway they found a 36-year-old White Bear Lake woman; in her purse were pearl necklaces belonging to the grandmother. Both were arrested. The man said he was picking things up for his grandparents but didn’t know where they lived; the woman said she’d been given the necklaces. The man was charged with felony second-degree burglary.

An employee at Lauderdale Certified Auto Repair in the 2400 block of Larpenteur Avenue told police Feb. 18 that two women entered the store, gathered merchandise and then left without paying. New Brighton

An officer stopped a green Dodge Caravan just after bar close time on March 1, after he saw the driver not wearing a seatbelt and driving poorly on Silver Lake Road. The driver, a 21-year-old New Brighton man, smelled of alcohol and tried to give the officer his entire wallet when asked for his license. The man submitted to field sobriety tests and blew a .218 blood alcohol concentration, nearly three times the legal limit. The man was arrested for second-degree DWI and booked at the Ramsey County Jail.

An officer in the area of 10th and Ninth streets in the early morning hours of March 5 saw a Chevy Tahoe driving strangely with all its windows frosted over save a small patch on the windshield, so he stopped the car. The driver was a 37-year-old man, and in the back seat was a 38-year-old woman, both from Minneapolis. The man was driving with a revoked license and had no proof of insurance, and officers found methamphetamine in the vehicle. On the woman, an officer found a bag of heroin. The man was arrested for driving with a revoked license, no proof of insurance and possible DWI; the woman had given a false name to police and it was found she had multiple warrants out for her arrest; both were booked at the Ramsey County Jail.

Inside man

Employees at the Dollar Store in the 2100 block of Silver Lake Road told police the night of March 1 that a man hiding out in the store’s restroom until closing time had robbed the store. The man, described as 25 to 35 years old, came out of the bathroom with a gun after everyone had left the store, except two female employees. He had them open the stores safe and empty cash from within it into a bag; he also had them take cash from registers. The man had the women carry the cash bags to the back door of the store, where he went to a waiting vehicle — he’d apparently spoken to its  driver over a Bluetooth headset during the robbery. When the women handed him the cash bags, he said “Thank you.” In all, the man made off with more than $1,900. Police are investigating.
