Arthur’s Senior Care is where your loved one is cared for like family

Arthur’s Senior Care offers a home setting for older adults who need 24-hour-a-day care. They specialize in memory care, on-site medical, high-needs physical care, and end of-life hospice care.  Arthur’s has two 6-person homes, one in Roseville and one in Shoreview, and they are providing nursing-home level care in beautiful homes in real neighborhoods.

Arthur’s is a sister company to ACR Homes, a Roseville-based business for almost 40 years that cares for over two hundred people with disabilities throughout the 5-county metro. ACR Homes has been voted a Top 5 Workplace five years in a row by our employees, and voted #1 by employees twice.  Both ACR and Arthur’s have a reputation for high-caliber staffing and excellent care

In 1981, ACR Homes’ founders, Jim and Dorothy Nelson, purchased a large home on Alta Vista Drive in Roseville with the goal of helping to care for their parents when the time came.

“The name Arthur’s Senior Care comes from my dad, Arthur,” Jim explains.  In 2006 Jim and Dorothy remodeled the home in order to offer care for six senior adults who need round-the-clock assistance. The cheerful staff and senior residents are thriving in the serene setting and can often be seen outdoors enjoying the natural surroundings in the residential neighborhood.

Five years later, in 2011, Arthur’s built another home in Shoreview, in a wooded, peaceful residential location.  In both homes, each of the clients have their own bedroom and private bathroom with a roll-in shower and a 1:3 staff to client ratio.  Meals are eaten family-style, and family members are invited to sit down for meals when they visit. The clients enjoy dignified, respectful care in a home, not a facility with long halls and room numbers.

“We often get clients from larger facilities” says long-term employee Deb Nygaard, the Director of Development for both ACR and Arthur’s.  “Sometimes challenging behaviors go away in a small setting because the staff can meet their needs so quickly.

“In addition to accepting clients who may have some challenging behaviors, Nygaard says Arthur’s more typically supports people with memory loss and higher needs.  They can manage sliding-scale insulin, chronic progressive diseases like Parkinson’s, MS, ALS, and PSP, special diets, and most medical devices.  They can do mechanical lifts, and care for people through the end of life, working with any hospice agency the family desires.

One family member, Julie Norris, said “If you want your family member cared for like a family member, then you need to come to Arthur’s.”
