After seeing a stolen car on County Road E2 West in New Brighton late on Oct. 28, police stopped the car and ordered those inside to get out.

According to a post on the New Brighton Department of Public Safety’s Facebook page, officers watched as three passengers filed out of the boosted car. As one of them was exiting the vehicle, the person tried to grab a large, pump-action shotgun from inside.

The alleged car thief couldn’t grab it and decided to run, said the post. A New Brighton cop chased after the suspect and suffered a minor ankle injury. Still, the officer caught up to and apprehended the suspect, twisted ankle and all.

New Brighton police found the shotgun, drugs and other property inside the stolen car they’d recovered. The Mounds View Police Department and Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office also chipped in with the bust.

The three suspects were booked on “a myriad of charges,” according the New Brighton police post.
